Seeing Strength: Empowering Others Through My Experience of Blindness
Losing my vision in childhood was more than just loosing my sight – it was a change for my whole family and together we faced challenges and navigated ways to adapt to this new reality.
At first, it was about coming to terms with the changes to my vision and worrying about what this means for my future and quality of life. Over time, I came to realise that I had the power to choose my own path and shape my life in the way I wanted. This shift in perspective allowed me to reclaim my independence, and it became clear that my experiences could be a source of empowerment not only for myself but for others experiencing a similar journey.
My lived experience was the driving force behind spending years completing formal qualifications and training in blindness and vision impairment. Through my professional opportunities, I have worked internationally leading amazing teams that provide high-quality, evidence-based services and supports for both children and adults. My commitment is to equity, accessibly and inclusion, whether it’s in early intervention, education, finding a job, navigating daily life, or participating in community activities. It’s all about helping people live the life of their choice and achieving their goals.
Today, through Go Inclusion, I use my journey to empower people who are blind or vision impaired, helping them build the confidence and skills to thrive in their daily lives. My goal is to show others that they have the power to create and live the life they want.
